I had brain/spine/skull surgery in January and I'm recovering....
I have Chiari Malformation.... which means that my cerebellum is descended out of my skull into the area where my spine is. it's a pain in my ass.... seriously. so after... 6+ years of being in pain, I was "fixed"
so on January 13th I had a suboccipital craniotomy, c1 laminectomy, brainstem decompression, duraplasty.... so they took out a piece of my skull, part of my c1 vertebrae, opened up the covering of my brain, made room for the "Malformation" which pre-surgery was 7mm.... and then put in a covering (duraplasty) to make more room.
So I'm healing. I haven't really been doing any art (drawing, photography, anything) because I've been trying to heal... and even before that, I was in so much pain the past... YEAR+ that I couldn't do anything.
So hopefully once I'm healed, I can get back into my art. So stay tuned.
and... now you know about Chiari, so now you're educated... and that's my goal now too... since 1 in 1000 people are born with Chiari Malformation

I'm just curious if you know of any signs to watch for because one of my ferrets has been very lifeless and not into doing anything even when I let her out. I'm planning on taking her to a vet if she does not perk up soon. It's just that i don't know if I'm overreacting(because she's about 3/4 yrs old. do they get lazy with age? ) or if she might really be sick. Any advice will be much appreciated!!

I took her to the vet and they did some blood tests. The results were not what I wanted to hear...she has insulinoma. I've got her on medicine that I have to give her twice a day. She looks a lot better now and looks happy and playful again thanks to the medicine so I am really happy but I'm still coping with the fact that it's still terminal. We could have done surgery but that only gave a 50-50 chance and I'd rather her just be comfy and happy for as long as she has left. You know?

he was with us for 18months.
and he REFUSED To take his meds. Predisone. He'd spit it out. we gave him something we found to work....
We mixed 1/2 bottle of Karo syrup with a whole bottle of Ferrevite.... and then microwaved it in 15 second increments until it all mixed together... and then O would eat it off the spoon. we'd give him a teaspoon every morning and night.... that way he had sugars and vitamins. he thought he was getting a "good boy treat" and the other ferrets got straight ferrevite.
the Doctors had NO idea how he made it so long.... NONE. we told them what we did, and they were SHOCKED. some times we'd have to literally put the stuff in a kitten feeding syringe from a pet store and put it like, down his throat when he was low, but he'd be fine with in 15 minutes or so...
but we dealt with that for a year and a half...
the doctors told us to pick 3 things he LOVED, and when he lost complete interest in 2 out of 3, it was time to let him go... and that's what we had to do. it's been over a year since we let him go, and it sucks, but we gave him the most awesome life (he was a rescue) and we know he was happy, and that's what matters, you have a happy little girl as long as possible, and she knows her mommy loves her.
I hope this message didnt get to you too late. I wish I came on here more often!!!

Not so much for me. Pandora died October 28th 2008. About three or so weeks after we started her on the predisone. And almost exactly three weeks later I lost Antigone, who out of nowhere got ill. She died November 11 2008.
I got a new ferret for my birthday so Antigone wouldn't be left alone because I knew Pandora didn't have much longer but I didn't expect Antigone to pass so soon as well. It had been exactly five years since I got them and just like that they were both gone. I miss them so much, just thinking about them is really hard still. I know I gave them a good life but that doesn't make it any less painful.
I named my new Ferret Ismene, who is Antigone's sister in the play, and she is fine. Not even a year old yet. She's not albino but she has red eyes.
